lonminlogo thumb medium90 90BusinessLive reports that platinum producer Lonmin faced "immediate action in the form of suspension or cancellation" of its mining right if it failed to submit a "compliant" housing plan, President Jacob Zuma warned on Sunday.

In an update on steps taken by government departments to implement the Farlam commission’s recommendations, Zuma said the miner had been instructed in September to revise its social and labour plan to deal with the living and housing conditions of its employees.  Zuma indicated that Lonmin’s progress was slow, compelling the Department of Mineral Resources to contemplate sterner measures.  Lonmin spokeswoman Sue Vey said on Sunday that the company was still studying the president’s statement.  She said Lonmin was committed to fulfilling the remedial actions in the Farlam report.
