TimesLive reports that the SA Council for Educators (SACE) is being investigated by the Public Protector (PP) because some of the members of the body's top management might not be qualified to do their jobs.
Every teacher in SA is by law required to register with the council before they are allowed to set foot in a classroom to teach. The council has in the past taken a hard-line stance against teachers with fraudulent qualifications. Oupa Segalwe of the PP’s office confirmed that they were investigating allegations of improper appointments at the council. EWN reported on Sunday that it has "internal audit documents" that indicate that the council's chief financial officer, its chief operations officer and human resources officer were all appointed without the relevant qualifications.
