Caxton News Service reports that a scammer spinning a tale about a dead domestic worker has resurfaced, having this time targeted a woman in Lyttelton, Pretoria out of R3,000 on the weekend.  

The employer received a telephone call in the early hours of Saturday and was told her domestic worker had been killed in a car crash.  The caller added that two other women had also suffered fatal injuries.  He said he needed R3,000 for the car to be removed from the scene.  The money was transferred using the Shoprite cash-sending service.  Later in the day, the domestic worker returned to the house and it emerged that she had not been involved in any accident.  Lyttelton police spokesperson Captain Dave Miller was familiar with the scam.  “When people are employed, it is best to have contact details of a next-of-kin who can verify whether something has happened or if something is wrong,” he said.
