TMG Digital reports that Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant is expected to intervene in an effort to end the impasse in the passenger bus transport strike.
This is according to the SA Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu), which said it had successfully requested Oliphant to meet with all parties in the ongoing deadlock. Workers affiliated to unions represented in the SA Road Passenger Bargaining Council, including Satawu and Numsa‚ downed tools on Wednesday demanding a 12% across-the-board wage increase and better working conditions. A meeting to resolve the impasse on Wednesday afternoon did not produce a solution. According to Satawu, the meeting between Oliphant and the disputing parties is set for 10am on Friday and parties to the negotiations would be contacted with details of the location.
