eNCA reports that the strike in the bus passenger sector is effectively over in that the National Employers’ Association (Neasa) has signed an agreement with three major bus unions.
The three unions are the SA Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu), the Transport and Allied Workers’ Union of SA (Tawusa) and the Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Tawu). The industrial action began on Wednesday and affected long and short distance buses. The two unions which have not signed are the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) and Transport and Services Workers’ Union (Taswu). Numsa, which was leading the strike, on Thursday rejected the latest offer from employers of a 9% increase across the board. It issued a statement on Friday morning confirming that it has not signed a deal with any employer in the sector to end the current strike. The statement added that the union was looking forward to engagement with the minister of labour and the employers later in the day (Friday).
