arcelormittalFin24 reports that ArcelorMittal South Africa said on Friday in a regulatory notice that safety remained its number one priority.  It expeprienced two fatalities at its Saldanha plant on 3 April 2017, both of whom were contractor employees.

However, in the first quarter of 2017 its lost time injury frequency rate (LTIFR) improved from 1.17 to 0.44 when compared to the first quarter of 2016.  The company also said it had experienced difficult trading conditions in the domestic market for the quarter ended 31 March 2017 and that the volatility in the rand/dollar exchange rate continued to impact the business significantly.
