Road Accident FundBusiness Report writes that according to the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), the Public Protector (PP) is investigating the Road Accident Fund (RAF) for maladministration.

Irvin Jim, Numsa general secretary, indicated on Friday that the PP had assigned a senior investigator to the matter.  Jim said it was not a secret that the management of the RAF was shambolic and the agency was technically insolvent.  He went on to claim that the RAF was hugely indebted “and its poor debt management has had a material impact on its ability to fulfill its basic mandate of paying out claims to road accident victims.  As a result the RAF has routinely had its assets seized because it owes creditors.”  Jim said the union’s members have often been unable to do their work because basic equipment was attached.
