Netwerk24 reports that more than 3,000 employees of the Mangaung metro plan to go on a protected strike from Tuesday because of alleged corruption, nepotism and unauthorised meddling in the performance of work by ANC councillors.  

The bargaining council for local authorities has apparently already given permission for a protected strike and the workers have been issued with a certificate in this regard.  Lebohang Masoetsa, deputy mayor, said they were hopeful that ongoing discussions being held with Samwu would lead to the planned strike being cancelled.  Molalenyane said Samwu had had enough of corruption and nepotism, where work was given to friends and family members at enormous salaries and without the posts having been advertised.  According to Molalenyane, the metro made an application to the labour court to have the ‘strike certificate’ reviewed, but this was unsuccessful.  He added that the workers felt aggrieved over many matters.
