News24 reports that the National Education Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) has decried South Africa’s constitutional democracy, claiming it was not compatible with the idea of democracy.
The comments were made by Nehawu president Mzwandile Makwayiba during his opening address at the union’s 11th national congress in Boksburg on Monday. "The one thing I hate in this country... that is only unique in this country and nowhere else and that is called constitutional democracy," said Makwayiba. He stated that a few individuals in Parliament turned to the courts when they were not happy with decisions agreed to by a 62% majority in Parliament. He added that South Africa’s constitutional democracy was not compatible with democracy itself.
