eNCA reports that the Gauteng government has warned rival taxi groups that five ranks and routes closed due to violence will only be reopened once they resolve their dispute.  

The Witwatersrand African Taxi Owners and Nancefield Dube West Taxi Associations are refusing to give up a lucrative route, which has led to a taxi war.  The associations say 28 people have died in the violence in recent months, but officials cannot confirm the number.  Commuters have lashed out at the Gauteng government's decision to close the ranks, saying they are suffering as a result.  But officials say they need a commitment to ending the violence before taxi operations in the areas can resume.
