sadtu90SABC News reports that the SA Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) has weighed in on the racial incident at St. John's College in Johannesburg, saying it was just a tip of the iceberg.

A geography teacher, Keith Arlow was forced to resign, after it was found that he victimised learners according to their race.  Gauteng MEC Panyaza Lesufi ordered the private school's management to reverse an earlier decision to allow Arlow to continue with his duties, despite the findings of an independent hearing.  Sadtu's Gauteng secretary Tseliso Ledimo said private schools should be closely monitored.  “Because they are not monitored by the Department, they just act on their own.  And that's why the Department must take an effort to closely monitor those schools, because there are lot of abnormalities in those schools that must be dealt with.”
