Mining Weekly reports that diversified miner Exxaro has received a revised set of demands from the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and the parties will resume wage negotiations on Friday.  

“We've noted the decision by NUM to issue a strike notice.  The strike action affects Grootegeluk coal mine, in Lephalale, as well as Leeuwpan coal mine, in Delmas.  We continue discussions with NUM in order to resolve and reach agreement sooner to minimise the impact on employees," Exxaro said in a statement on Thursday.  The NUM on Wednesday announced that it planned to start the strike at 06:00 on Thursday.  Meanwhile, Exxaro said negotiations with Solidarity, the other trade union recognised for collective bargaining, were continuing.
