News24 reports that the body of a miner who was trapped in AngloGold Ashanti’s Mponeng mine in Carletonville has been recovered, bringing the number of dead miners at the mine to two.
The body was recovered on Thursday during a rescue operation. The miner had been trapped around 3.8km underground. AngloGold spokesperson Chris Nthite said on Wednesday that a series of seismic events at the mine in the early hours of Saturday had resulting in the death of a winch operator. Another miner who had been injured was still in a stable condition in hospital.
