sapsANA reports that North West police said on Friday that no arrests have been made in connection with the recent spate of killings in Marikana near Rustenburg.

“There is no arrest effected in Marikana with regard to the recent incidents of murder,” said Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone.  However, Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) president Joseph Mathunjwa told a mass meeting at Wonderkop stadium on Wednesday, and repeated the message at a media briefing on Thursday, that three people had been arrested.  “Late yesterday [Wednesday], just before our mass meeting at Marikana, SA Police Service arrested three suspects based on the strong evidence of their involvement in these killings.  We truly hope that this is a breakthrough that finally sheds light on the campaign of terror that is being waged against us,” Mathunjwa told reporters on Thursday.
