News24 reports that the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) has warned the public to beware of robbers claiming to be Home Affairs officials.
A group of individuals is apparently pretending to be officials from the Department, and is visiting homes claiming to check the validity of people's identity documents for the upcoming elections. The DHA indicated that the scammers carried "documents with letterheads purportedly from Home Affairs" and were "criminals who rob households once they gain entry". "There is no such initiative from the Department," the DHA confirmed on Twitter, adding that it would "announce household visits through official government channels". DHA officials are clearly identifiable by name tags, the DHA further advised.
