nsriThe Mercury reports that that a female stevedore was rescued on Monday at the Port of Durban, after falling off a ship in the port.

National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) spokesperson Craig Lambinon said:  “The woman was at the loading and off-loading of a ship at the berthing inside the port when she slipped and fell from the ships gangplank and into the water.”  NSRI Durban coxswain Paul Bevis rushed to assist the woman after the alarm was raised.  Fortunately Aqua-Tech Diving Services, who were working around the area, responded with a standby diver who rescued the 46-year-old woman and bought her to the harbour wall, where Bevis assisted with the co-ordination of medical treatment.  NetCare 911 ambulance services transported her to hospital in relatively stable condition.
