EWN reports that that the Communication Workers Union (CWU) indicated on Wednesday that it was in talks with middle-management officials and freelancers at the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) to get them to join planned industrial action on Thursday.
If those approached were to agree, it would include radio presenters and TV hosts and affect several shows at the public broadcaster’s 21 radio stations. The CWU’s Aubrey Chabalala said his union remained open to negotiations, but would not settle for anything below the inflation rate, while 10% would be reasonable. “The SABC management had ample time to resolve this matter. But they didn’t show any interest. They only approached us on Monday with 4.5% offer, which is an insult to workers,” he indicated.
