ANA reports that the SA Transport and Allied Workers’ Union (Satawu) on Thursday met with bus companies and put a new offer on the table to end a national bus driver strike.
This came after bus drivers on Monday rejected a ‘compromise’ offer of 8.75% for year one and 8.25% for year two that had been put forward by the bargaining council and the CCMA. “We will not be disclosing the contents (of the new offer) until we have reported back to our members,” said Satawu spokesperson Zanele Sabela. She said all unions would be holding a press conference on Friday at 3pm at the Garden Court OR Tambo, Kempton Park. It has been almost a month since drivers downed tools countrywide after initially demanding a 12% wage hike, which was dropped to 9%.
