Fin24 reports that bus drivers have officially ended their protracted strike after reaching a compromise wage settlement with employers on Monday.  Drivers agreed to a 9% wage hike for the first year and 8% for the second year of a two-year deal.  

The offer will be backdated to 17 April, the date of commencement of the strike.  Workers had been demanding that the wage increase be backdated to 1 April.  The bargaining council has sent out a letter stating that all parties have agreed to end the bus strike and that services will begin again on Tuesday.  The issues of nightshift hours, dual drivers and insourcing have been referred to a task team overseen by the CCMA with clear terms of reference and time frames.  The strike, by more than 17,000 drivers, ground transport services to a halt in many cities across the country, leaving commuters stranded.  It was supported by Satawu, Tawusa, Numsa, Towu and Taswu.
