Mining Weekly reports that gold mining wage negotiations continued on Wednesday between gold producers AngloGold Ashanti, Harmony Gold, Sibanye-Stillwater and Village Main Reef and the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu), Solidarity and Uasa.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) did not attend, as it had declared a dispute with the gold producers on Tuesday. The NUM's dispute would be referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA) for facilitation and was one step away from a legal, protected strike action, the union stated. Wage negotiations will continue on August 29.
