eskomBusiness Report writes that unions have put the blame squarely on Eskom for the protracted wage dispute that saw the parties signing an agreement on Thursday.

The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Solidarity signed a three-year wage deal with the power utility.  It includes a 7.5% increase for the first year and a 7% increase for each of the following two years.  Eskom has also agreed to an annual cost of living adjustment to their housing allowance, as well as a once-off R10 000 cash payment to employees in the central bargaining forum.  “The conclusion of these negotiations enables us to firmly focus on the Eskom of the future and building a sustainable business to power the nation and grow the economy,” said Elsie Pule, Eskom’s group executive for human resources.  NUM spokesperson Livhuwani Mammburu said the wage negotiations had been the most difficult ever in the history of the Cosatu affiliate.
