gavel thumb100 ANA reports that a 25-year-old woman who allegedly lied about her qualification as a radiographer while working for the Eastern Cape department of health made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Commercial Crimes Court on Tuesday on a charge of fraud.

Asisipho Mbekela from Walmer Heights in Port Elizabeth worked at Livingstone Hospital as a radiographer for a period of nine months during 2016.  According to the indictment, Mbekela made misrepresentations to the department and falsely indicated on her Z83 application form that she had obtained the qualification “Radiography Nuclear Med” at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology in 2015.  But, the state alleged that Mbekela lied about her qualification and in November 2015 had failed the course dismally, only passing one of her four subjects during her final examination.  The National Diploma in Radiography: Nuclear Medicine is a minimum requirement for registration in radiography.  The case was postponed until later this month for the centralisation of charges
