postoffice thumb100 BL Premium reports that according to the SA Post Office (Sapo), acting CEO Lindiwe Kwele will remain on suspension despite her winning an arbitration award last week.

She was suspended in December just four months into her acting CEO role after the board received a whistle-blower’s report alleging conflicts of interest and irregular extensions of contracts.  Last week's arbitration award was based on the finding that there had been procedural unfairness in her suspension as Sapo announced her suspension before she was given a chance to give reasons why it should not happen.  This was despite a board undertaking that it would give her 48 hours to provide such reasons.  Kwele’s lawyer, Eric Mabuza, said on Tuesday that his client was preparing to go to work.  But on Wednesday, the Sapo board said that it was consulting its legal team on the arbitration award.  It indicated as follows:  “The award basically found a procedural flaw in the suspension process of Ms Kwele, but that there was good reason (substantive fairness) for the suspension, and Ms Kwele thus remains suspended pending subsequent processes which may emanate from legal advice.”
