lindiwesisuluBL Premium reports that according to human settlements, water and sanitation minister Lindiwe Sisulu, no water boards being investigated for corruption and maladministration may use state funds to delay those investigations.

Sisulu said she was outraged that state resources were being used to delay and frustrate probes by the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).  On Tuesday, the SIU briefed MPs about legal frustrations experienced in one of the investigations it was conducting within the department.  The SIU said it has faced pushback on its investigation of the Lepelle Northern Water Board.  The utility’s former CEO, Phineas Legodi and the former board had applied to the court to interdict the SIU from investigating Legodi’s personal financial affairs as part of the probe into maladministration and corruption at the water board.  The new board has since withdrawn support for the court application, leaving Legodi as the sole applicant in the case.  Sisulu moved swiftly to address the problem raised by the SIU and issued a directive to all accounting officers of the department and affected water boards to provide full support to the SIU while ensuring that all cases were concluded as a matter of urgency.
