BL Premium reports that the SA Post Office’s (Sapo’s) CFO, Khathutshelo Ramukumba, has resigned from the state-owned entity after three months in the role, deepening leadership instability at the embattled organisation.
Sapo’s board confirmed on Thursday that Ramukumba had resigned with effect from 31 December 2020 for "personal reasons". It did not provide further detail about his departure and no acting CFO has been announced. Ramukumba’s resignation comes at an inopportune time for the Post Office, which suffered more than R1bn in losses in the past financial year and has been hamstrung by acute management and financial problems that have left it on the brink of collapse, with doubts raised about its going-concern status. Last year, Sapo was unable to pay employee medical aid and pension fund contributions pending financial assistance from the state. The permanent position of CFO was only filled in October 2020, when Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams, minister of communications, telecommunications & postal services, announced Ramukumba’s appointment. On Thursday, the Sapo board said the process of finding a new permanent CFO was "firmly under way".
