News24 reports that the Hawks (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation) have arrested the acting head of department at the Northern Cape Department of Health.
The suspect was arrested for the alleged contravention of the Public Finance Management Act, Hawks spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi indicated on Wednesday. Dr Dion Thyse, 54, appeared before the Kimberley Regional Court on Wednesday. "It is alleged that during March 2014, the acting head of the department signed three lease agreements with JP Hugo residence for nursing accommodation without following normal procurement processes. The total cost of these lease agreements is approximately R96 million," said Mnisi. The suspect was granted R30,000 bail and the case was postponed to 24 March.
