hawksNews24 reports that the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) has arrested three cash-in-transit security officials and a former security guard after they allegedly conspired with robbers in a heist near Harding, KwaZulu-Natal (KZN), last week.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo advised on Wednesday that the Port Shepstone Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation team and Crime Intelligence had arrested the four people, aged 31 to 60, in connection with the 30 April heist. Two armoured vehicles were en route from Port Shepstone to Kokstad after collecting cash from the depot. Whilst travelling in convoy, one vehicle disappeared and the other one was allegedly intercepted by the suspects. Mhlongo reported that an undisclosed amount of cash was taken. After the case was reported at the Harding police station, Hawks officials interviewed all the security guards and established that three of them were seemingly involved. "It is suspected that they colluded with the suspects. Their houses were searched and three of them were found with cash allegedly taken during the heist. A total amount of R709,510 was recovered," he said. The fourth arrest was that of a former security guard who had worked at the same company but who was expelled from the company last month. The four are expected to appear in the Harding Magistrate's Court.
