JMPDNews24 reports that a Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officer has been found guilty of murder and three counts of attempted murder.

Bongani Silence Baloyi was convicted in the Gauteng High Court in Johannesburg on Monday. The court heard that Baloyi murdered a man in what appeared to be a road rage incident. On 3 October 2019, at the intersection of South Africa Drive and Central Africa Republic streets, Baloyi made a U-turn while driving a VW Golf. His actions nearly caused a collision with a Nissan travelling towards Honeydew, driven by Seja Lawrence Nkwana. Three passengers were in the vehicle with Nkwana. "Both the drivers exchanged words, the accused fired shots at [Nkwana]. The accused reported himself to police officials he found along the road as he walked away from the scene, the officers confiscated his firearm and he was later arrested," a police spokesperson indicated in a statement. According to the postmortem report, Nkwana died as a result of gunshot wounds in the head, chest, and abdomen. Baloyi is expected to appear in court on 2 June 2021 for sentencing.
