UNTUEngineering News reports that the United National Transport Union (Untu) has accepted Transnet’s revised final wage offer for this year, after an overwhelming response from the majority of the union’s branches to accept the offer.

Untu general secretary Steve Harris said that although everyone would have wanted a better increase, the reality was that Transnet had not yet recovered from State capture and had taken a financial hammering owing to Covid-19. The final wage settlement for the 2021/22 financial year involves a 5% wage increase on basic salary backdated to 1 April and an agreement to start consultations on the restructuring of the business.
