TimesLIVE reports that the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has suspended current affairs television show host Rams Mabote after a female member of the production team lodged a complaint of inappropriate behaviour towards her.
Mabote, a former Metro FM talk show host who now anchors current affairs show Media and Society, is alleged to have touched the female colleague inappropriately during preparations for the show on 15 August. SABC bosses this week effectively put Mabote on suspension after they asked him not to report for duty pending an investigation into the matter. A source close to Mabote said he was deeply aggrieved by the suspension and he would be insisting that all those present during the show's preparations on 15 August be subjected to lie detector tests. Mabote was apparently also unhappy that he had been asked to stop reporting for duty even though he had not yet been presented with a formal charge. According to another source, Mabote merely tapped the complainant on the shoulder during discussions with other colleagues. When the complainant told Mabote that she did not want him touching her, he apparently apologised immediately.
