gavel thumb100 News24 reports that a 70-year-old Eastern Cape man has been slapped with six years direct imprisonment for stealing almost half a million rand from his employer.

Benjamin Mzovukile Mfazwe was arrested for the theft in August and was convicted on Tuesday by the Mthatha Specialised Commercial Crimes Court. Mfazwe was given a 10 year jail sentence, four of which were suspended for five years on condition that he was not convicted for the same offence again during that period. He will spend six years in prison. The crime dates back to 2018 when Mfazwe worked for a company called Moderling Business Holding, which would buy land and then develop it. The investigations revealed that the business was prejudiced cash to the value of more than R490,000.
