Fin24 reports that according to the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa), axed CEO Zolani Matthews' Labour Court case against the entity has been withdrawn and referred to the Commission for Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA).
In December, Prasa announced that Matthews' employment contract with the agency had been terminated after the State Security Agency (SSA) declined his security clearance application because of his dual UK citizenship, which he allegedly failed to disclose before assuming the position. Matthews proceeded to contest his dismissal at the Labour Court in Johannesburg, arguing that the speed with which his security clearance matter with the SSA was concluded "raised suspicions". In court papers submitted to the Labour Court, Matthews also argued that Prasa flouted its disciplinary code with the manner in which it handled his suspension and dismissal. Prasa spokesperson Andiswa Makanda confirmed on Thursday that the case had been withdrawn from the Labour Court and the matter of Matthews' dismissal was currently in progress at the CCMA. There was no love lost between Matthews and organised labour upon his dismissal. The National Union of Metalworkers of SA said that his ouster vindicated them, as they had slammed him for apparent salary delays in the Autopax division and had demanded a probe into the disposal of buses by the subsidiary under his watch.
