Mining Weekly reports that according to Harmony Gold, an employee was killed in a fall-of-ground incident at the gold producer’s Kusasalethu mine on the afternoon of 15 December.

The fall of ground was the result of a seismic event. “We are deeply saddened by this loss. We extend our condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the deceased,” said CEO Peter Steenkamp. The relevant authorities, as well as the family members of the deceased, have been informed of the incident and a comprehensive internal investigation is currently under way.
