SABC News reports that nearly 700 jobs will be created for residents of the Letsemeng Municipality in the Free State for the duration of the construction of R706 between Jacobsdaal and Koffiefontein.
The Roads and Transport department’s spokesperson, Hillary Mophethe, noted that the construction was part of a number of road infrastructure projects. She indicated that the project would officially resume on 17 January and was expected to be concluded in June 2026. “The MEC for community, safety, roads, and transport, MME Maqueen Letsoha-Mathae, will be in Letsemeng meeting with the communities of Letsemeng, Koffiefontein, and Jacobsdal, where she will be handing over the road, R705, between Jacobsdal and Koffiefontein. The MEC will start by engaging stakeholders and communities regarding the processes that are supposed to be followed, and later on, she will be doing the same with the communities of the two towns,” Mophethe indicated.
