GeorgeNews24 reports that the death toll in the George building collapse rose to 14 after two more bodies were recovered on Friday afternoon.

Local government MEC Anton Bredell indicated: "Unfortunately, we are still looking for 39 more people. Fourteen people are deceased, and our thoughts and prayers are with the families.” He went on to say: "It's very difficult …. we understand. We also got the embassies [and] the consulates involved, especially to help with translation to help [and] look after the families. We have been aware of them [the two bodies], but it takes time to get people out." Meantime, it has emerged that two students studying at the Africa Skills Private College in George were on-site when the five-storey building collapsed on Monday. On Friday afternoon, the college confirmed that the students were on-site to complete their apprenticeships as electricians. College spokesperson Phillip Harmse said for students to complete their studies, they needed to be mentored by qualified red seal artisans.
