SABC News reports that City Power announced on Wednesday that it would be resuming its operations in Alexandra, Johannesburg, on Thursday morning, following a constructive meeting with community leaders.
The power utility’s technicians’ work on the outages in the area was temporarily suspended after community members attacked two City Power employees on Tuesday evening. “We strongly condemn these actions because when people do not have electricity, attacking other people that are supposed to provide that service or damaging municipal or government infrastructure is something that only serves to exacerbate the situation and you will need the very same services in the future,” lamented City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
