SABC News reports that slain Gauteng public order policing head Colonel Hlanganani David Makhubele was laid to rest at Ribungwani Cemetery at Elim, Limpopo, on Saturday.
Makhubele was stabbed to death on Good Friday by unknown suspects in a street in Turffontein, Johannesburg. His family said they did not believe his murder was purely a criminal act, which comes amid suspicions that there was a motive other than robbery behind the killing. His cousin Samson Baloyi said they found the circumstances around his death difficult to accept. "If this was work related, it was not necessary for whoever did this to break our hearts in this manner. I don't believe that it was a simple criminal incident because if it was, the police should have told us something was stolen. This was planned," he said. Colleagues described Makhubele as a committed public servant. He is survived by his wife, four children, parents and five siblings. No one has been arrested in connection with his murder.
