Press Statement dated 7 July 2019

The Congress of South African Trade Unions in Gauteng is fast running out of patience with the Finance Minister, Tito Mboweni’s arrogance and stupid utterances over the e-tolls.

His latest rant just proves how out of touch and egotistical Minister Mboweni is. He has proven himself to nothing but an arrogant, petty, self-obsessed, narcissistic, bullying, petulant, incompetent and unhinged moron.

COSATU wants to warn Mr Mboweni that if he starts behaving like the Guptas, he will be treated like the Guptas. He cannot treat government and government policy like his personal plaything and treat Gauteng citizens like his subjects. The economy is collapsing under his eyes and all he knows is to shoot his mouth off on social media, like a drunken teenager, instead of coming out with solid policies to fix the economy.

His continued undermining and disregard of the ANC resolutions and internal government processes will collapse President Cyril Ramaphosa’s administration. The people of Gauteng, in general, have rejected the privatisation of our national roads and no tinpot dictator will change that.

Mr Mboweni did not just undermine Premier David Makhura on social media but he actually disrespected the people of Gauteng. The money that he allocates is not his personal inheritance but our hard-earned tax as workers and we will not have him behave as if he is doing the people of Gauteng a favour.

President Cyril Ramaphosa should start taking us seriously and kick out this mini-Gupta out of his administration if he wants to be taken seriously. Tito Mboweni is not the President of the ANC and he will never be and, therefore, he should stop behaving like a mini-Donald Trump, when intoxicated.

COSATU in Gauteng reiterates its call for all motorists to boycott the payment of the e-toll accounts.

The people of Gauteng should continue to wage the longest running boycott of this unfair, unjust and unpopular policy. This is the biggest boycott since the dawn of democracy that continues to be a huge success.

We totally support the position of Premier David Makhura over the e-tolls.

We call the President and the ANC to act decisively against Tito Mboweni because if they don’t, it will be a reflection that the leadership of ANC no longer listens to the people but to themselves.

The ANC in Gauteng is still reeling from the loss of three municipalities during local government elections in 2016 and its support has declined during the May 2019 Elections.

We deserve better than this as the people of Gauteng.
