ancANA reports that unemployment levels, particularly among the youth, was a major concern for the African National Congress (ANC), President Jacob Zuma said on Saturday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth.

Launching the ANC’s local government election manifesto, Zuma said:  “It is of concern to the ANC that many of our people, especially the youth, are sitting at home doing nothing because the economy is not growing fast enough to create much needed jobs.  Our country, our continent, and the world are experiencing slow economic growth.  [However] The ANC has a concrete plan in place to respond to the slow growth and create jobs.  Our municipalities, guided by the National Development Plan, will place job creation and sustainable livelihoods at the centre of their local economic programmes.”  Zuma went on to say that at the national level, a nine-point plan was being implemented by the ANC government to boost economic growth and job creation in various sectors.
