BDLive reports that Johannesburg waste removal entity Pikitup on Thursday said the past few weeks have been hassle free and it has recovered from the tumultuous wage strike that brought its service to a halt.
The five-week strike left the streets of Johannesburg piled with rubbish, sparking fears of disease. "Pikitup is pleased to announce that the recovery operation implemented in April to normalise waste removal across the city was successful," the entity stated. The unprotected strike came to an end in April after the workers, represented by the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu), and Pikitup reached an undisclosed agreement.
