EWN reports that, after a meeting with mineworkers on Monday, managers at Vantage Goldfields’ Lily Mine in Barberton gave an assurance that salaries would be paid between Wednesday and Friday.
The mine was meant to pay workers their April salaries last Thursday. According to one account, funds provided by a new Canadian investor still had to reflect in the company’s account before claims could be processed. The Lily Mine was placed under business rescue, following a massive shaft collapse in February. Three workers have been trapped in a container underground ever since.
