amcu thumb medium80 81Reuters reports that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) said a tweet on its Twitter feed stating that it would seek a R12,500 monthly minimum during upcoming platinum pay talks was not a final demand set by the union.  

Spokesman Manzini Zungu said the tweet was in fact a slogan of the union, but that the final wage demand had not yet been set.  Amcu made a similar demand of R12,500 a month for entry-level employees in the platinum wage negotiations in 2014 and again last year in the gold sector.   Entry-level workers in the platinum sector earn between R8,000 and R9,000, according to Zungu
