ANA reports that Northam management announced on Wednesday that underground operations had resumed at its Zondereinde mine on Tuesday night.
The company said employees had worked the night shift after Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane had visited the mine on Tuesday as part of his ongoing intervention to restore peace and stability. However, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) is reportedly dismayed to have been left out of the meeting. The company’s statement also noted that resumption of operations came after the SAPS disclosed that six (other reports indicate four) suspects had been arrested in connection with the deaths last week of two Zondereinde employees.
