The New Age reports that incorrect information supplied by employers about their workers has caused a backlog in payments for more than 1,000 Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) beneficiaries at the North West labour department.
If the information provided by employers differs from the information on the department’s database, the application is automatically rejected. Some of the applications date back as far as last year and most of them involve maternity applications. Provincial fund manager Selete Qhamakoane said they had now established a team of specialists to unpack the backlog. Qhamakoane urged employers to provide correct information as otherwise the process was hindered. Provincial spokesperson Orpa Mathabe indicated: “We will send out our team of employer auditors to assist employers who struggle to fill in the forms. We are also embarking on advocacy sessions in various Malls around North West from June to September.
