BDLive reports that Home Affairs Minister Malusi Gigaba has extended the closing date of applications for Lesotho special permits to allow more time for Basotho to apply.
Close to 40‚000 applications have been received, however‚ an estimated 400‚000 Basotho are believed to be living in SA. The last day for applications was 30 June, which has now been extended by three months to 30 September. The Lesotho special permit initiative falls under a special dispensation for Lesotho nationals who work‚ study or do business in SA and have been in the country since before 30 September 2015. Lesotho special permits are valid until December 31 2019.
