Business Report writes that new research on a national minimum wage (NMW) shows that more than 85% of economic sectors would see positive employment impacts, with minimal job losses elsewhere.
The report by Applied Development Research Solutions (ARDS) in conjunction with the National Minimum Wage Research Initiative at Wits University shows that a NMW policy would have a positive impact on the wage rate, prices, employment, household income and consumption, and it could reduce the country’s widening inequality gap. Meantime, another meeting by Nedlac stakeholders, led by Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, will be held on 25 July and a panel of experts will be established to review research on the NMW.
