TimesLive reports that Gauteng petrol stations have been hardest hit by the petrol industry strike, which the union warned on Monday would continue until their demands were met.
The six-day-old petrochemical strike has seen about 15,000 members affiliated to the Chemical Energy Paper Printing Wood and Allied Workers Union (Ceppwawu) demanding a 9% wage increase, with employers offering 7%. More stations in parts of Pretoria and Johannesburg reported shortages yesterday after several filling stations were left perilously low at the weekend. Motorists reported that filling stations in Monument Park, Elardus Park, Rietvlei, Springs, Centurion, Bergbron, Northcliff, Linden and Cresta have been affected. Indicating that the strike had "no end in sight", Ceppwawu’s Clement Chitja said: "We are waiting for the employers. We are [expecting] a positive reaction and that they don't give false hope to employees."
