BDLive reports that a flare-up of tension by staff led the Electoral Commission of SA (IEC) to ask officials to leave the Gauteng electoral operation centre on Thursday morning. But it was not expected to delay voting results in the province.
IEC agents protested by singing and chanting, with some walking out of the centre on Thursday morning. This followed tension over the long queues that had formed over the completion of voting district results. "Remember that these are people that haven’t slept for about two days," IEC vice-chairman Terry Tselane said. "But that issue was dealt with. The people that were asked to leave are those people whose results had been already been received.... Some remained to hand in their results. We are satisfied with the progress," he added.
