TMG Digital reports that barely a week with a new mayor‚ the City of Tshwane on Monday faced a workers’ protest.
A group of its workers belonging to the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) picketed outside the customer entrance of the metro's headquarters‚ Isivuno House‚ in the city. They want the metro to start paying them shift allowances in accordance with an agreement apparently reached in June that shift allowances would be paid as from July. The shift allowances are in addition to basic wages for workers working certain shifts‚ like evening or overnight shifts. he picketers mostly work in the electricity department‚ call centre and water meter reading division. On Monday the metro's officials were locked in talks with Samwu representatives.
