telkom thumb100 The New Age reports that talks between telecoms company Telkom and the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on the strike that has entered its fourth week have hit a stalemate, both sides said on Wednesday.

Telkom indicated that it had hoped to find a meaningful engagement with the CWU and made several proposals to the union.  However the parties could not find each other.  CWU general secretary Aubrey Tshabalala on Wednesday said Telkom management had proposed that the union should consider suspending the strike as the company was “bleeding”, but the union could not do so without a mandate from members.  The company stated:  We are disappointed that the talks did not yield any positive results but remain hopeful that a resolution will be found.”
